I missed my flight

We’re working on a new video project and completed our first day of production on Molokai today… Yes Molokai 🙂 I hadn’t been to Molokai in all my life and in the last week, I’ve been there twice. Once for a location scout and today for production.
I woke up this morning at 4:30am to make sure I was at the airport by 5:30am for my 6:55am flight. I’m super paranoid about getting to the airport early because I’m terrified of missing my flight. When I travel for work, I bring a bunch of gear, tripods, cameras, lighting equipment, and if I have a project I’m shooting that day, missing my flight is not an option.

We arrived to Molokai at 7:30am and jumped in a rental car with our client and headed out for our first location. After 45 minutes of shooting, we headed to location 2 where we stayed for most of the rest of the day. We shot a bunch fo b-roll and interviews and realized we were running a little late. But we committed to a third location for our final interviews and that’s when we realized that I had misread the time of our flight departure. I thought our flight was a 6:55pm, but in fact it was arriving in Honolulu at 6:55pm. Still thinking we could power through the last bits of our shot list, we kept going.
Once we wrapped, we raced off to the airport to return the car and hop on our flight only to realize on our drive there that it was too late to check in online. So though we made it to the airport with enough time to get on the plane, the check-in terminal had closed because it was the last flight out of Molokai.
Scrambling around, I looked for the next best thing… purchase a ticket on another airline that was bound for Honolulu. After some initial frustration with the Mokulele customer desk for not being able to immediately help us with our dilemma, they pulled out all the stops to help us get onto the plane. I had never flown on a tiny passenger plane like that before, but it was actually really fun. We had the entire plane, all 7 rows to ourselves. It almost felt like we were on a private jet and honestly it was a fun experience to end our day on Molokai.
